Winter update

Category : Training

January and February are always the hardest training months to endure , during preparation for the international season triathlon . Normally the season starts in the month of March.

November and December are usually the month’s when I train my technical skills as if in January and February I turn in to increasing volumes of intense training.

During the preparation stage I decided to make only one altitude training in January in Font-Romeu (France). I always respond positively to the altitude and during this training I appeased my mileage for the following 3 weeks .
The social isolation is sometimes hard, however by meeting other athletes during the preparation stage it mitigates the burden.
All went well in the following 3 weeks , and what I saw was a lot of snow and sun. After this stage it was time to go back home .

After a few days I left again for two weeks towards sunny Spain with my regular training group and coach. I’ve trained hard the first week and the presence of my training partners makes the intense workouts even a lot harder. But for the long bike stages it’s very helpful to crawl into the wheel of somebody else and sit out of the wind…

At the moment it is still unclear for me whether I will be on the list for the World Triathlon Series race in Abu Dhabi on 5th March but certainly you can see my at the start of the World Cup in Mooloolaba (Australia) on the 12th of March.
Sincerely I hope to be able to test my condition in one of those races.

Kind regards,
Simon

Training down under

On top in Beechmont (+600m), It’s quite beautiful to ascend by bike here in Austrailia.
Lovely day for a fun race, but maybe it was a bit too hot with 38 degrees

Lactate tresshold testing: Jan Olbrecht

Category : Training

The first 4 trainingweeks are over, now it’s time to see how my condition is by having a first lactate tresshold test. Since 2003 lactate tresshold testing is done by Jan Olbrecht and this time it wasn’t different. Last Sunday I had a running test on the running court and a swimming test yesterday in the 50m-pool in Wachtebeke. The benchmarks are being set and now it’s time to begin with some serious training. Tomorrow I will bind my spikes en take part in a national cross country championship for the military in Schaffen. I’m anxious to see what that will give.

Greetings,

Simon

Introducing my fanpage

Category : Lanzarote , Road to Rio , Training

Thought it was about time to put my fanpage out in the world by facebook. Now many friends, acquaintances and fans can keep up more easily with my career. I just started training again and been to Lanzarote for 2 weeks for a training session. This was organized by the BOIC, so many top-class sporters from different kinds of sports were there. These 2 weeks were real fun and in between the training sessions we had a really good laugh. With Katrien Verstuyft and Claire Michel I represented the triathletes in Team Belgium.

This was a good start for the Road to Rio 2016 and I’m looking forward to the next training sessions this winter.
